Martin Makelov

Martin Makelov is a current first-year BSc Geography with Economics student at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He graduated from the High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Burgas, one of the top mathematics schools in Bulgaria. In high school, he was involved in Mathematics, Mathematical Linguistics, and English Language competitions. Martin took part in the first edition of The “Academy of Economics, Finance, and Entrepreneurship” in June-July 2024, where he finished second in the presentation round at Burgas Free University.

Finding the experience extremely valuable, Martin later asked to join Foundation “For Intelligent Growth” and help organize the second edition of the academy. As Project Manager for AEFE 2025, his work included communicating with schools across the country to advertise the academy, helping select the 24 participants, and creating homework assignments for the first week. He also served as a mentor to two students (including Stanimir Chilikov, one of the AEFE 2026 organizers) during the final week of the academy, giving them advice about their final projects and informing them about the process of applying to European universities like Bocconi and LSE.

Martin is also the Project Manager for AEFE 2026, working together with Yordan Tsanev and former participants Pavel and Stanimir. Outside of economics and mathematics, he is interested in late modern history and topics in human geography like demographics and migration. He is also deeply interested in politics and geopolitics and always keeps up with current affairs.
